AMATEUR RUNNERS AND WALKERS WILL ENJOY THE 2ND ANNUAL REDLANDS RUNS 5K AND FAMILY WALK

The 40th Redlands Bicycle Classic, presented by San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is not just for cyclists. The iconic Redlands-based event also offers opportunities for people of all ages to run the 2nd annual Redlands Runs 5K presented by Crafton Hills College at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 13.

The 5K (3.1 miles) starts are the intersection of Eureka Street and Brookside Avenue by the former Redlands Mall and the historic Post Office. Runners will compete three laps of a one-mile closed course that is flat and fast. The event is limited to the first 500 to register.

The top 10 male and female finishers of the 5K will be invited to race for a share of the $1,000.00 purse in a one mile “Dash for Cash” at 10:05 a.m. on the same day. The cash will be split evenly among the top three male and female finishers. All pre-registered participants in the 5K will receive a free event t-shirt. All participants must complete a liability waiver and medical release. Participants under 18 years must have the signature of a parent or guardian.

For the more casual participants, families of up to 10 members can join the Family Fun Walk, which starts at 7:05 a.m. Strollers and wagons are welcome. No dogs allowed. The entry fee of $10 covers the entire family unit but there is no T-shirt for participants. However, each participating family will receive two $5 vouchers for use in the Vendor Village at Citrus Avenue and Sixth Street.

Brian Zander, a teacher at Judson & Brown Elementary in Redlands who helps coordinate the Stater Bros. Charities Public Races for children and teens, said he has been working with several area running clubs to promote the 5K. “Groups such as the Redlands Runners, MoVal Runners, Riverside Track Club and the Loma Linda Lopers are actively promoting the events to their membership and to other local runners,” Zander said. Pre-registration is up 100 percent from last year, according to Zander.
